EcoJustice Africa

EcoJustice Africa is a groundbreaking people-powered initiative that utilises digital technology, democratised media access, and data-driven policy advocacy to combat environmental crimes in Africa.

EcoJustice Africa is dedicated to strengthening community environmental policing and combating environmental crimes across Africa. Our mission is to educate citizens about environmental rights, violations, and justice while equipping them with digital tools to report environmental crimes effectively. Through strategic media access and stakeholder engagement, we empower communities to hold governments and corporations accountable for environmental violations. By bridging the gap between citizens, media, and policymakers, we foster a new generation of digital-savvy environmental activists ready to drive an environmentally-just Africa.

EcoJustice Africa is anchored on five core components:

1. EcoJustice Fellowship

Training civil society/community leaders from indigenous communities (especially youth and women) across Africa as EcoJustice Field & Media Fellows to establish, coordinate and educate grassroots networks of environmental protection activists.

2. Environmental Education & Education for Sustainable Development

Empowering indigenous community members with environmental education & awareness about environmental rights to enable them to identify environmental crimes, understand how it affects them, and know how to fight back.

3. Digital Environmental Crimes Policing

Equipping indigenous communities with Green Growth Watch mobile app, the first-of-its-kind eyewitness reporting tool developed to facilitate environmental crimes reporting! With the app, citizens can report environmental crimes and violations within their localities in real-time, anonymously and without victimisation. Download the Green Growth Watch.

4. Inclusive & Democratised Media Access

Facilitating open media platforms to verify reports and enable indigenous community members (especially victims of environmental crimes) to directly engage with government stakeholders to address verified environmental crimes.

5. Data-driven Policy Advocacy

Utilising verified reports of environmental crimes to drive multimedia advocacy, engage policymakers, and create a digital database of verified environmental crimes to reform Africa’s regulatory framework for environmental protection.

At EcoJustice Africa, we envision a just and sustainable Africa where every citizen is aware of their environmental rights and empowered to take action. Join us in redefining environmental advocacy for a greener, more just future.
