With technical and funding support from Green Growth Africa in Partnership with the University of Waterloo – WISE, Canada and Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability, USA, African Child College, Kubwa, Abuja, Nigeria, hosted the Worldwide Teach-In on Climate and Justice Event. This event involved 45 participants including all staff members, students, and non-academic staff. The event lasted for one hour and 47 minutes with two breakout sessions.

The first sessions involved the student discussing questions asked as regards their knowledge on climate change and the things they would like to know about climate change. The students had basic knowledge on what climate change is but not much on the factors causing it nor its effect on the environment. The school’s EcoHeroes coordinator engaged their curiosity by simplifying what climate change really meant, explained the role of human beings in bringing about climate change and the part each student must play in fighting against the effect of climate change in their daily activities. The students discussed what they would do to prevent the effect of climate change, one of their immediate plan of action was to reduce food wastage in the school environment and in their community.
The second breakout session involved the students engaging in playlet, poems and songs, cultural dance, storytelling on the short-term and long-term reward of participating in the school’s EcoHeroes club. The session ended with a reflective moment on what the students had learnt at the event.

In conclusion, the Worldwide Teach-In on Climate and Justice Event hosted by The African Child College was a significant success, as the students gained new knowledge of the meaning of Climate Change and were able to recognize their role in mitigating the impact of Climate Change in their environment.
